Bennett's Math Wiki

My name is Bennett and this is my math wiki. I am putting many projects on this page. I think math is important because without it, we wouldn't be able to do many things, such as measure things, count or see how many of something we have.

Greek mathematicians

In this project, we were given a Greek mathematician to study and make a wanted poster about. We were given a template which told us what we had to do. We then filled in the boxes with facts about the person that we had studied about.

Car Project

In this project, we found 2 cars, a realistic car under $20,000 , and a dream car with no price limit. We then calculated things like tax over 5 years, if we had a job how many hours it would take to pay it off, and more.

Real Car- Toyota Prius c hatchback- $18,440

Dream Car- DeadMau5 Nyan Cat Ferrari- $380,000

It was DeadMau5's car and he sold it in an auction. It purrs like a Nyan Cat and comes with an IPod full of Nyan cat songs.

Da Vinci Proportions

in this project, we learned about Leonardo Da Vinci's proportions with the Vitruvian Man. we measured different parts of our body and found out if we were proportional, and then we saw if we matched Da Vinci's proportions. We made a double bar graph to show this. After that, we got to see what percentage of our class matched Da Vinci's proportions with a pie chart.

1. My Arm span/ Height and Length of Hand/ Height proportions were proportional to the Da Vinci Proportions.

2. If i measured myself in 5 years, I don't think my proportions would change, because both parts of my body would grow.

3. A double bar graph is good with this data because it compares my proportions with Da Vinci's proportions.

This chart shows how much of our class matches the Da Vinci proportions of the Vitruvian Man. Most of our class did not match the proportions, but almost 20% did.

Are You Typical?

I Took Data From the Renaissance 6th Grade class at Woodlawn. I came up with my questions and asked everyone in the class. This included 11 people.

1. What type of pet do you prefer?

I used a pie chart because it shows how much out of all of the people chose that option.

There were other categories than reptiles and canines/ felines, but the data shows that all of the people I surveyed preferred those 2 types. I only took data from 11 people, so the data might have been different if I took data from more people. I believe that more people prefer cats and dogs than any other pet based on this data.

2. How Many Pets Do You Have?

I used a bar graph because it compared all of the results.

This data showed that the typical person had at least 2 pets. There was only 1 person out of the 11 students that did not have any pets, and 5 out of the 11 had 3 pets or more. There were also 5 people with 2 pets or less. My data shows that people more often than not have pets.
